The police have kicked off investigation in to last night’s armed robbery at Chucrh Zone, Nateete in Rubaga Division which left one person dead.
The deceased has been identified as Rafael Walugembe.
Police sources say a stray bullet from an armed robbery scene hit Walugembe killing him on spot.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident.
He said Walugembe was leaving his father’s house to go and sleep at a sister’s house.
“The deceased sister is admitted at the hospital. So, by the time of the incident, he was leaving his father’s house to go and sleep at the sister’s,” Onyango explained.
Walugembe was driving a Toyota Spacio registration number UAY 480U at the time of his killing.
He said Walugembe’s body is at the city mortuary for postmortem.
Onyango explained that the deceased shooting followed an armed robbery in the area.
“We received an information that there were gun shots around Church Zone. So, we dispatched our team to the ground. Reaching, armed men using a silver vehicle whose registration number remain unknown had blocked way for a mobile money operator identified as Denis Mwesigwa and wife, reportedly a nurse. “The assailants fired several shots in the air to scare the Mwesigwas,” a source who was part of the operation said. He the process, others were searching their victims. “They took a Samsung phone and a wallet containing Shs400000 plus his wife’s bag containing a phone, Shs210000 and other items yet to be identified,” Onyango confirmed in an interview.
Onyango said efforts are underway to identify the vehicle used by the assailants in a bid to bring them to book.
“The body was taken to the mortuary for postmortem. Seven (7) cartridges were picked from the scene. We will use these exhibits to hunt the assailants,” he said.
